Register My Child for School
There is now an online student registration portal!
You can now begin the online pre-registration process for new HDSB students who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents residing in Halton.
For more detailed instructions for the online student registration, please see online student registration parent/guardian instructions.
Please note: the online registration link does not function properly on mobile devices (phone or tablet). Please use a desktop computer or laptop (including a Chromebook). If you do not have a laptop or desktop, please print and complete the Student Registration Form. Registration forms must be completed by the Parent/Guardian, or student if 18 years of age or older. Once the Student Registration Form is complete, please contact the school to complete the registration process. Please refer to the HDSB School Registration Contact Information.
How to Pre-register Online
Visit the HDSB Online Student Registration portal and request a new account to begin the process.
Once you have submitted the online form, you will receive a confirmation email indicating you’ve successfully completed pre-registration.
Call your local school school to make an appointment to finalize your registration. At your appointment, please bring the required documents.
Required Documents to Complete Registration
The following documents are required to complete registration.
Once the Student Registration Form is received by the school contact, the school will acknowledge receipt of the Student Registration Form and share the process for providing the mandatory documents to enter your child(ren) in the system.
These include:
Proof of child’s age: birth certificate or passport or baptismal/faith record for your child
Proof of address (any two of the following documents): lease or deed, car registration, utility bill, residential telephone bill, moving bill, property tax bill, bank statement, credit card statement, correspondence with a government agency. Important Note: A driver’s license will not be accepted as documentation for “proof of address”.
Proof of child’s citizenship: birth certificate or passport, Record of Landing (IMM 1000)or Permanent Resident Card
Proof of custody: if you are not the parent and your child is under 18 you must provide proof of custody (court order)

Find out where to register for school by completing the Where do I Register my Child for school form. This form will help you navigate the registration process for your child within the HDSB. Please respond to these questions for each child you wish to register separately.

Personal information will be used for purposes related to the regular operational requirements of the educational and administrative functions of the Halton District School Board. For Kindergarten students, parents may register children turning four before December 31, 2024.
Please note: If your child is currently attending Year 1 Kindergarten in the HDSB, you do not need to register for Year 2 Kindergarten.
After following the instructions for Register My Child for School, Parents/Guardians of Kindergarten students must complete the Kindergarten Parent Questionnaire . This form is to be completed for students entering Kindergarten for the first time.
New or Returning to Canada?
Additionally, the Welcome Centre registers Kindergarten students where:
The parent has a Work Permit AND is registering their first child in the family with HDSB
The parent/child has a Study Permit/Visa
The parent is a Permanent Resident applicant on visitor status
